Well, Florida cried and whinned their way into the BCS championship game against Ohio State and this really pisses me off. There is no doubt that Michigan is the 2nd best team in the country (for the record; I hate OSU, Michigan and Florida).

You see, Florida has been whinning about the fact that Michigan already had their chance and now it was their turn. Hypo-crites!

For those of you with a memory, you'll recall our beloved Gators won their only national title in 1996. They beat the Florida State Seminoles...a team they lost to in the final game of the regular season, by three, on the road!!

Sound familiar?

What's the difference? The Gators benefited from a conference championship game (basically, an extra game to turn on the voters).

Let's say a prayer; Dear God, please hand the Gators a ass-whopping unseen by any other, so the BCS will finally burn in hell like it deserves.

Fast Food Nation - Move Rant

****SPOILER ALERT****

I will give out important information. If you plan on seeing the movie and don't want me to spoil it for ya, STOP READING!

Fast Food Nation was by far the lamest movie I have seen all year. This movie made me long for some excitement from 'The Bridges of Madison County'. I went in, wanting to love this film. I'm a liberal elitist living in New York who loves bashing McDonald's more than my old lady. By the time this movie was over though, not only was I wishing for the 116 minutes of my life back, I was actually craving for Big Mac soaked in secret sauce (Thousand Island dressing).

FAST FOOD NATION the movie is based on the popular book with the same name and the basic and simple story is about how our burger consumption effects those who supply, produce, market and sell the beef.

The point was to show us all the horrors, but the film fails miserable. Gee, the meat plants use illegal Mexicans. Wow, pissed off teens work in the stores. No kidding, the higher ups over look shit in the meat. Maybe I'm just too smart for this film, but the director didn't tell me anything that I didn't already know. Nothing shocking happens. Nothing. Have you people ever heard of a plot twist? Was this script written by an college freshman, trying to impress his professor? Lame.

The biggest flop was the character development. The illegal Mexicans played by Catalina Sandino Moreno, Ana Claudia Talan and Fez on 'That 70's Show' are the characters you should probably care about, but in the end I don't. The angry white youths working in the store talk about robbing the joint, but nothing happens. What's the point? Greg Kinnear comes across as the corporate jock with a heart, but in the end, he does nothing to get the shit out of the meat.

The director found some big name stars (Bruce Willis, Ethan Hawke) to do some bit parts, which is fine in theory, but the problem is, when you put a big name in a small part, it just distracts me. Find me a great character actor to play these roles and they'll treat it like gold. With these guys, you could see that they felt they were doing us the favor just being there....oh yeah, what the hell was Avril Lavigne doing in this movie? I'm all for 'muscians' (and I'm using that term loosely) jumping from the stage to the big screen, but it doesn't work when they just play a character that I could see them being in real life if they weren't singing a toon or two...hello...Britney. If you're going to do it, do it right.

The only reason why I didn't walk away from this movie was that fact I was waiting for the cow killing at the end...you know, the ending everyone and their grandma knew was coming. You know, the one that was going to show us the awfulness of all this. Like the rest of the film though, this was a big disappointments. In fact, it wasn't bad at all and I'm still craving burgers to this day.

In the end, the one fact remains, if you're going to produce a movie, you need a script. You need character development. The book (which was not fiction) worked. This film didn't.

- As of today; we are bogged down in a war in Iraq; one that has no end in sight.

- Bombs have gone off in both Egypt and England...London's response? Shoot an unarmed man in the head five times.

- These bombers are getting their training where? Pakistan! Our Ally! With friends like these; who needs enemies.

- About half the administration is being investigate for trying to smear a good man who tried to speak the truth about the run up to war.

- The Afghan's are producing more dope now then when the Taliban was in charge...and oh yeah, they're on their way back.

- Iran and North Korea continue to go nuclear; what do they have to fear? What are we going to do about it?

- Last week, cops started randomly searching bags in the NYC subway system...man, I feel safer now that you checked the 75-year-old woman's bag, because she just so happened to be next.

- Osami...who's that? For some reason our President never mentions the man who got away with killing over 3,000 Americans. Well, at least we got Saddam, right?

Iraq blast kills at least 54, injures 82
Suicide bomber detonates huge explosion in fuel tanker

BAGHDAD, Iraq - A suicide attacker detonated explosives strapped to his body Saturday at a gas station near a Shiite mosque south of Baghdad, triggering a huge explosion in a fuel tanker and killing at least 54 people, police said.

Eighty-two people were injured.

Police Capt. Muthanna Khaled Ali said the attack occurred in Musayyib, about 40 miles south of Baghdad....READ ON.

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Insurgent attacks in the last six months have killed more than 8,000 Iraqi civilians, police and troops, according to Iraq's interior minister.

Meanwhile Thursday, a U.S. military spokesman in Baghdad said the Iraqi insurgency had probably reached its "high water mark" over the past 12 months.

In an interview with CNN, Iraqi Interior Minister Baqir Jabbur said "terrorists" had killed 8,175 people and wounded another 12,000 since January 2005.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, there have been 307 U.S. fatalities in combat during the same period.

Jabbur said he was optimistic about the recent strides made by Iraqi security forces and predicted victory in the war against insurgents.

"We have a plan, and I think we need some months and we can get results ... We are surrounding the insurgency," he said.

Unofficial estimates of Iraqi civilian deaths during the Iraq war range from about 22,000 -- according to the Web site iraqbodycount.net -- to about 100,000 -- from an independent survey reported in The Washington Post. The Pentagon does not give numbers for civilian deaths in Iraq.

Jabbur said he believed the U.S. has enough troops deployed in Iraq. He said Wednesday the focus needed to remain on the training of more Iraqi troops and police.

Jabbur said the Iraqi-led counterinsurgency operation dubbed "Operation Lightning" has so far yielded 1,500 arrests of suspected insurgents around Baghdad. Of those, 500 have been released, Interior Ministry officials said.

He said Iraqi and American troops were poised to start a second phase of the operation, extending the reach of the campaign to a 60-kilometer (38-mile) radius around Baghdad.

Jabbur's office is in charge of Iraq's police force, which he said now numbers about 67,000.

The ministry hopes to recruit a total of 200,000, but financial restraints are complicating efforts to outfit them with weapons and equipment, he said.

Let's see, a minimum wage worker would have to flip a lot of burgers for many hours, days, months and years to make $165,200 since Congress has refused to raise the minimum wage of $5.15 an hour for nine years now.

Republicans reason that if you raise the minimum wage, companies won't be able to afford to pay them, so then they'll fire them.

What a crock of shit. The companies that employ minimum wage workers are billion-dollar corps who I think can't spare a penny or two, especially since prices for such goods continue to go up, up and away - out of the price rage of the minimum wage workers who produce such product.

I guess the cost of living only goes up for Congressmen!

It's almost sad to watch the American President these days. Unable to use the color-code freak show to scare Americans to support him, the president is forced to use the U.S. army as props to remind us all, if we're against him, then we must be for the terrorist. If you question the war or question his motives or plans, then the terrorist have won. If you speak out against the Administration's failures, you're then your risking the troops' lives. Bush, 4/9/99: “Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is.” And on the specific need for a timetable, here’s what Bush said then and what he says now: George W. Bush, 6/5/99 “I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”

I've said it before, so please believe me now...we will have troops in Iraq for the next twenty years; maybe even thirty. The funny part is; I could have told you this before the war started; but your President, your vice-President and your Defense Secretary...they couldn't.

The great thing about conservatives is how good they are at picking an issue and attacking it from all side over and over and over again.

Recently, Republicans in Congress are going after National Public Television. In their small brains, they have decided that it's tooooo liberal to their liking...so they're trying to starve it to death by cutting their federal funded budget. Luckily for the rest of us sane people, its failing.

But it doesn't mean it won't keep trying. You remember the big uproar over Durbin using the Nazi reference. So strange since the fuckhead righties have no problem throwing it out.

You gotta love Gov. Vilsack...and not just because his name makes you think of ball sacks. Ha-Ha, he said ball sack. But he's actually a decent guy and good governor.

I've always said, which means I'm going to say it again...it makes no sense that a felon can't vote. Think about it? If you commit a crime, get busted, serve time (or community service), complete the whole rehabiliation process, then why can't you be able to vote? Right now they don't because a unfair majority of felones in this country are minority and who do minorities usually vote for? I'll give you a hint...it's not Republicans.

Critics of course say this will hurt "efforts to curb crime." Please, please, please explain that one to me. Do they really believe that some criminal about to rob a 7-11 is going to say, oh wait! I shouldn't do this because if I do, I run the risk of getting caught and losing the opportunity to vote ever again! Screw this shit. I'm gettin' a job.

Iowa Gov. to Restore Felons' Voting Rights

Gov. Tom Vilsack said Friday he will soon sign an order restoring the voting rights of convicted felons who have served their sentences.

Currently, felons can apply for the right to vote, but it must be approved by the state's parole board and the governor in a lengthy process.

Vilsack, a Democrat, said the current system is too time-consuming and unfairly affects minorities. His executive order would automatically restore felons' voting rights upon completion of their sentences.

"This action we take is not going to be a pardon," Vilsack said at a news conference surrounded by dozens of civil rights activists. "When you've paid your debt to society, you need to be reconnected to society."

Uzbek Ministries in Crackdown Received U.S. Aid

MOSCOW, June 17 - Uzbek law enforcement and security ministries implicated by witnesses in the deadly crackdown in the city of Andijon last month have for years received training and equipment from counterterrorism programs run by the United States, according to American officials and Congressional records.

The security aid, provided by several United States agencies, has been intended in part to improve the abilities of soldiers and law enforcement officers from the Uzbek intelligence service, military and Ministry of Internal Affairs, the national law enforcement service. Besides equipment aid, at least hundreds of special forces soldiers and security officers, many of whom fight terrorism, have received training.

Witnesses and American officials say the Uzbek Army, law enforcement and intelligence service were all present at the crackdown. The American Family Association has called off its nine year boycott of everything Disney because Disney was friendly to gays, claiming victory no less. Let's see, Disney is about to celebrate it's 15th annual Gay Day, they still over family benefits to gay employees and they own ABC which produces the hit show "Desperate Housewives" which features middle-aged woman bangin' the teenage garden boy...you have no love those unknown boycotts from Christian groups out of Mississippi that you've never heard of. In fact, I can't think of anything good that's come out of Mississippi...except the Mud Pie...Mmmmmm Mud Pie.

Christian group calls off Disney boycott

A major Christian conservative organization called off its nine-year boycott of the Walt Disney Co. on Monday, citing "positive signs" that the company had moved away from its "arrogance" and "embrace of the homosexual lifestyle."

"The boycott of Disney is now a matter of personal conviction, rather than a matter of [American Family Association] ministry emphasis," Tim Wildmon, AFA president, said in a statement posted on the group's Web site.

The move comes nearly one week before the 15th anniversary celebration of Gay Day at Disney World in Florida, set for June 1. The AFA cited the annual theme park party as one of the reasons for initiating the boycott in 1996, and the event remains a "troubling stain on the Mouse House," according to the AFA's site.

Teens accused of killing homeless man 'for fun'

HOLLY HILL, Florida (AP) -- Two Florida teenagers found a homeless man in the woods and beat and kicked him to death "to have something to do," according to Volusia County sheriff's investigators.

Christopher Scamahorn, 14, and Jeffery Spurgeon, 18, confessed to beating the 53-year-old victim with their fists and sticks and kicking him, sheriff's spokesman Brandon Haught said Sunday.

The pair were charged with murder Sunday. Spurgeon was being held without bail in Daytona Beach. Scamahorn taken to a juvenile jail.

The teens said they attacked the man "for fun" and "to have something to do," Haught said.

They went back to the woods three times after the initial attack to beat the man again, he said.
The victim was found Saturday, and the condition of the body indicated he had been dead for several days. An autopsy Sunday determined that the man died from blunt force trauma to the head and body, Haught said.

The victim's name has not been released.

"We're trying to find next of kin," Haught said Monday. "He apparently doesn't have any next of kin nearby."

Investigators said there may be more arrests.

Jane Fond's film "Monster-in-Law" because of the activist role the actress took during the Vietnam War.

WASHINGTON -- An unchastened insurgency sowed devastation across Iraq Wednesday as experts here said the country is either on the verge of civil war or already in the middle of it.

In the course of the day: Four car bombs detonated in Baghdad; a man wearing explosives at an army recruitment center in Hawija, north of Baghdad, blew himself and many others up; a car bomb exploded in a marketplace in Tikrit, north of Baghdad; and the country's largest fertilizer plant was heavily damaged by a bomb in the usually quiet southern city of Basra. Meanwhile, U.S. Marines were winding up a remarkable pitched battle against surprisingly well-equipped and determined insurgents on Iraq's western border. Some 76 Iraqis were reported killed and more than 120 wounded in the one day of violence.

With security experts reporting that no major road in the country was safe to travel, some Iraq specialists speculated that the Sunni insurgency was effectively encircling the capital and trying to cut it off from the north, south and west, where there are entrenched Sunni communities. East of Baghdad is a mostly unpopulated desert bordering on Iran.

"It's just political rhetoric to say we are not in a civil war. We've been in a civil war for a long time," said Pat Lang, the former top Middle East intelligence official at the Pentagon.

Afghan Protest Over Quran Turns Deadly

KABUL, Afghanistan - Shouting "Death to America," demonstrators angry over the alleged desecration of the Quran at Guantanamo Bay smashed car and shop windows and stoned a passing convoy of U.S. soldiers Wednesday in eastern Afghanistan. Police opened fire on the protesters, killing four and injuring at least 71.

The U.S. troops fired into the air before quickly leaving the area in Jalalabad, near the Pakistan border, provincial intelligence chief Sardar Shah told The Associated Press. It was the biggest outpouring of anti-American sentiment since the fall of the Taliban in 2001.

The demonstrations began Tuesday, when protesters burned an effigy of President Bush over a report in Newsweek magazine that interrogators at the U.S. detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, placed Qurans on toilets to rattle suspects, and in at least one case "flushed a holy book down the toilet."

Of course, like every other time we do something stupid, our government denies, denies and oh yeah, denies.

In Washington, the State Department said the allegations of desecration were "certainly serious and it would be important to have them be looked into."

"Obviously, the destruction of any kind of holy book, whether it's a Bible or a Quran or any other document like that, is something that's reprehensible and not in keeping with U.S. policies and practices," State Department spokesman Tom Casey said.

The United States is holding about 520 people at Guantanamo Bay, many of them al-Qaida and Taliban suspects captured in Pakistan and Afghanistan following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in America.

We all know what this story should be about - This government's continued hypocricy. We yell out freedom, yet support regimes who don't live it. We scream out liberty, yet we contain hundreds if not thousands of people with any trial. We cry out against torture chambers, yet we not only continue to torture, we outsource to countries we condemn for that exact reason.

In one of my favorite episodes of the Simpsons, Troy McLure - famed Hollywood personality and star of such classics as "The Greatest Story Every Hula-ed" and "They Came to Burgle Carnegie Hall" - needs to get hitched in a sham marriage to Homer's sister-in-law in order to save his career. You see, Troy has a dark secret. When asked if it's that he's gay, McClure responds, "Gay? I wish! If I were gay they'd be no problem! No, what I have is a romantic abnormality, one so unbelievable that it must be hidden from the public at all cost."
I bring this up because a.) I still laugh at it, and b.) the prosecution has rested its case against Michael Jackson. Michael Jackson's perversions are as close as we have today to Troy McLure's situation. Of course, the key difference is that Troy's terrible secret seemed to involve tropical fish. That's funny. Jackson's more terrible and less secret perversion is that it involves little boys.

ROBIO: I officially will stop watching the Simpsons now, knowing this guy watches too. I'm kidding, I can't stop watching the Simpsons. Plus, this episode was funny.

A lot of eat-your-spinach media critics think it is unseemly for the press to pay attention to the Jackson trial. To them it's just another exploit of tabloid TV. I couldn't disagree more. First of all, this story would have been hot stuff even during the Golden Age of Murrow. After all, coverage of Fatty Arbuckle and Charlie Chaplin moved a lot of newspapers back in the day.
More important, this isn't like the childish coverage of the "runaway bride" - er, sorry - "flee-ancee" we've been subjected to. One can't help but suspect that the producers who pumped the story into a round-the-clock obsession were disappointed when it was discovered the woman hadn't been abducted but just got a case of cold feet. Still, since people who buy bridal magazines are a more valuable demographic than those who read The Economist, they seemed perfectly willing to run, and run, and run with the story.

No, the Jackson story is about a hugely rich and successful man using his money and influence to cover up years of sexual and psychological abuse of children. It's about the moral depravity Hollywood is willing to tolerate and enable. (Then again, tolerance and enabling are really the same thing.)

ROBIO: Please don't make me defend Michael Jackson, pleeeaaasssee! Okay, instead I'll depend the process. Here yet again, we have a moron deciding the innocence and guilt of a person before the tiral is even over. No only that, this ass-crack isn't even covering the trial. And then we see it, wait a second, this has nothing to do with Michael Jackson or little boys or Jesus Juice...this is about "the moral depravity (of) Hollywood". Damn, I should have saw that coming.

In many respects this is the perfect story to unite the entire country. O.J. Simpson's murder trial split the nation because Simpson's lawyers expertly manipulated the case into a fight about racial politics, rather than the obvious fact that Simpson murdered two people.

ROBIO: Agreed. That's what lawyers do. Damn those fuckers for doing their job.

The Terri Schiavo case wasn't purely a courtroom battle, but it certainly divided America along fascinating fault lines. The media desperately tried to portray it as a purely left-right conflict, but that analysis was too simplistic to account for the many splits on the right over the issue, or the presence of Ralph Nader and Jesse Jackson on the pro-life side.

ROBIO: Fault lines? The line of over 70% who wanted the fedding tube removed and Congress to butt out their business and the 30% who thought Tom DeLay should be making family decisions? By the way, nice pointless Schiavo drop in! You still can't let the woman die?

Meanwhile, Michael Jackson can have no defenders on left or right. He doesn't fit any normal categories. Like Troy McLure, he's not gay. Unlike O.J. Simpson, he's not even black anymore. Who was it who said, Where else but America can a poor black boy grow up to be a rich white woman?

ROBIO: Jackson doesn't deserve any "defenders on left or right?" A) Why is this a political issue at all? It's not. B) Gay has nothing to do with this. C) Being black has nothing to do with this. And nice little finish...let me guess you wrote this whole article just so you could use the line, "Where else but America can a poor black boy grow up to be a rich white woman?" It's kind of like me saying, Where else but America can a pathetic Jewish boy grow up to be a ignorant, white fuck?"

Indeed, even if you think the prosecution failed to make its case - which it may well have - it is almost impossible to be on Michael Jackson's side or on the side of those who've allowed him to live the disgusting lifestyle he has.

ROBIO: So let me get this straight. Even if Jackson is found innocent, he's wrong. He's bad. Got it!

At minimum, Michael Jackson's handlers knew he had a reputation for abusing children. Before that, they knew he behaved in ways with children that sane, normal, people do not. They saw how he surrounded himself with a giant playroom used to entice boys into his bed. Jackson's staff crafted elaborate electronic warning systems other safeguards to ensure that Jackson was not caught doing anything with children by people who might turn against him. What sort of person installs an electronic warning system for an accused pederast? What sort of person sees that system every day - or even every now and then - and does nothing? What sorts of parents send their kids to a rumored sex offender's house on the thin rationalization that he was never technically convicted of wrongdoing?

According to the AP Wire, Bill Frist is ready to go nuclear on the filibuster. Despite the fact that President Bush has gotten 95% of his judges through Congress (208 out of 218), more than the past three Presidents, Frist is ready next week to change Senate rules to stop Democratic filibusters of the President's judicial nominations.

It's amazing how fucked up these people are. All a candidate has to do to get by a filibuster is get 60 votes (60 out of 100). I'm sorry, but if some judge can't get 60 votes, he doesn't belong. For crying out loud, in school 60% is failing.

It amazes me that they think they can ignore the fact that they kept 60 Clinton nominations from ever receiving a floor vote. Back then Democrats had a 55-person majority and did we eliminate 200 years of Senate rules just to get every single judge we wanted through? No.

But again, this isn't about these stupid little Federal judges. For Frist and company, this is about the Supreme Court. In their eyes they see two openings for the Supreme Court in the next three years. This is their only opportinuty to guarantee that two anti-aborition, pro-prayer-in-school type judges end up in those two spots.

Don't you think it's ironic that the two Supreme Court judges who everyone expects to retire are both Conservative judges, yet they refuse to step down right now even though it would be a perfect time to do so while everything in Washington is coming up red.

We need to let the Republicans do what they can to destroy themselves, so in 2006 they get their asses handed to them in the election and the Senate goes back to the Dems.

NEW YORK - Al Gore may have been lampooned for taking credit in the Internet's development, but organizers of the Webby Awards for online achievements don't find it funny at all.

In part to "set the record straight," they will give Gore a lifetime achievement award for three decades of contributions to the Internet, said Tiffany Shlain, the awards' founder and chairwoman.

"It's just one of those instances someone did amazing work for three decades as congressman, senator and vice president and it got spun around into this political mess," Shlain said.
Vint Cerf, undisputedly one of the Internet's key inventors, will give Gore the award at a June 6 ceremony in New York.

"He is indeed due some thanks and consideration for his early contributions," Cerf said.
Gore, who boasted in a CNN interview he "took the initiative in creating the Internet," was only 21 when the Internet was born out of a Pentagon project.

But after joining Congress eight years later, he promoted high-speed telecommunications for economic growth and supported funding increases for the then-fledging network, according to the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences, which presents the annual awards.

Mr. Drudge posted a link to a story from a Cape Coral newspaper about Kelly Smith, a mother who's daughter was returning from Iraq, who decided to put up 'Welcome Home' signs in the median strip, along with a bunch of yellow ribbons.

Well, guess what? Hanging signs onto public property is illegal in Cape Coral. "The city does not allow temporary or commercial signs in medians unless they are also advertising city-owned facilities, or providing road information, such as street signs or stop signs." So a 82-year-old code compliance officer came along and took it all down, as well as other signs for garage sales and such.

I was born and raised in Florida and I can tell you that there are a lot of old people down there. And when you have a lot of old people, you have a lot of RULES - A lot of STUPID RULES. You're not going to agree with them all, but they're there and they're going to enforce them.

Now as for this sign, mamma wasn't too happy.
"After my daughter is risking her life for our country, for me, for you, for code enforcement," Kelly Smith said. "I think it is a shame they are so shallow. What harm does it do?"

U.S. Can't Account for $100M Spent in Iraq

WASHINGTON - U.S. civilian authorities in Iraq cannot properly account for nearly $100 million that was supposed to have been spent on reconstruction projects in south-central Iraq, government investigators said Wednesday.

There are indications of fraud in the use of the $96.6 million, according to a report by the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction. A separate investigation of possible wrongdoing continues.

More than $7 million of the total is unaccounted for, the report said. An additional $89.4 million in payments do not have the required supporting documents.

The report accused civilian contract managers of "simply washing accounts" to try to make the books balance. Staffing shortages and the quick turnover of those responsible for the cash contributed to the problems, the report said.

President Bush has presided over the largest overall increase in inflation-adjusted federal spending since Lyndon B. Johnson.

After excluding spending on defense and homeland security, Bush is still the biggest-spending president in 30 years. His 2006 budget doesn’t cut enough spending to change his place in history, either.

Total government spending grew by 33 percent during Bush’s first term. The federal budget as a share of the economy grew from 18.5 percent of GDP on Clinton’s last day in office to 20.3 percent by the end of Bush’s first term.

The Republican Congress has enthusiastically assisted the budget bloat. Inflation-adjusted spending on the combined budgets of the 101 largest programs they vowed to eliminate in 1995 has grown by 27 percent.

The final nondefense budgets under Clinton were a combined $57 billion smaller than what he proposed from 1996 to 2001. Under Bush, Congress passed budgets that spent a total of $91 billion more than the president requested for domestic programs. Bush signed every one of those bills during his first term. Even if Congress passes Bush’s new budget exactly as proposed, not a single cabinet-level agency will be smaller than when Bush assumed office.

Gormley, "So it's their fault for going back?"

During the same interview, he responded to the reporter's question, "You seem to be drawn to this fixation that women have to go back. I don't think that speaks highly of women. Woman are not some toys out there, drawn back to the magnet of the man a lot of these men are bums and cretins and they have to be punished but I think women are independent enough to not go back to the men who beat them. And we have a lot of men who are abused by women, but they are too ashamed to admit it."

Rep. Altman, "I know you are after a story. And it's kind of a nice story, that we've tabled a CDV bill. Because then you can talk about the insensitive man, the insensitive legislator, but it's not the case. But I don't know why a woman, there would ever be a second offense."

Let's try to digest all this:
First of all, Altman is clearly not very bright. Who the fuck speaks to anyone like this ball bag did to this reporter? Rule #1 in Asshole school…if you can’t justify your action, deflect, deflect and deflect.

Now on the issue at hand, it appears Altman doesn’t feel that wife beaters should get stiff penalties for slapping their ho’s around because it’s the woman’s fault for coming back. Like he said, “he can’t understand why women continue to go back around men who abuse them.”

Obviously, fuck nut is a typical white-bread Republican who has lived a privileged life. He doesn’t quite get it that the type of person who is married to abusive people comes from lower-income or broken homes and it’s not unusual for them to come from abusive families.

I also have to assume he’s wealthy, because only an ignorant fuck like him would honestly believe that it is just that easy for these women to just get up and leave. Yeah, we all have gold cards and tons of cash sitting around so when we uproot our lives, there’s a cushy pillow waiting for us. Typically, women who are abused are not wealthy woman, some would even say poor. Many have kids and either have small part-time jobs or are full-time mothers. As any person with have a brain can tell you, it’s not that easy.

He tries to say he’s not blaming the victim, but then says, “What self respecting person is going back around someone who beats them?” Man, what a cockfucker.

Listen, Mr. Altman seems pretty stubborn about this “not going back” idea. So I have to assume that he’s prepared to do his part. I think from this day forward and women who is abused by their husband or boyfriend should grab their bags, grab their kids and give Rep Altman a call. He is attempting to pass a bill in Alabama that says that public school libraries can no longer "buy new copies of plays or books by gay authors, or about gay characters."

"I don't look at it as censorship," says State Representative Gerald Allen. "I look at it as protecting the hearts and souls and minds of our children."

But in book after book, Allen reads what he calls the "homosexual agenda," and he's alarmed. "It's not healthy for America, it doesn't fit what we stand for," says Allen. "And they will do whatever it takes to reach their goal." He says he sees this as a line in the sand.

Okay, am I on the only one who's having Footloose flashbacks right now or is it Nazi book-burning flashbacks? Where's John Lithgow when you need him. What next, we ban dancing that might be too gay?

And a Republican in Alabama wants to ban any book by gay author's or that has gay characters in it.

So no more Tennessee Williams, Truman Capote, Gore Vidal. No "The Color Purple" or "Bridget Jones's Diary". I guess when Jeff Gannon/Gukert writes a book, he won't have to ship any copies to Alabama. I have to assume that Alabama won't be accepting Dick Cheney's daughter's upcoming book.

What do we do next? Erase gays from history? Alexander the Great...we can go ahead and erase him from history. What about President Lincoln? We'll cross him out of the history books? What about pop culture? 'Will & Grace...can't show that? We'll have to remove Bill Crystal's character in all reruns of 'Soap'.

Personally, I'm for it - because I truly believe we're about to experience a major backlash in the next election (2006). Let the Republicans ban their books, pass discriminating legislation, speak their hatred, ignore ethic rules and watch how many will be swept out of office in the next couple years.

The justification to teach the Bible in Public School is that it's History. The Bible is not a historical document. It is a fictional book, written by many different men throughout history that has constantly been changed to fit one person or another's belief system. If they're going to offer this class, wouldn't it be fair to offer a class for other "historical" literature works like the Torah, the Koran and the Book of Mormon. For some reason, I don't expect to see those classes in Texas anytime soon.

Texas School Board Adds Bible Class

ODESSA, Texas - The school board in this West Texas town voted unanimously to add a Bible class to its high school curriculum.

Hundreds of people, most of them supporters of the proposal, packed the board meeting Tuesday night. More than 6,000 Odessa residents had signed a petition supporting the class.
Some residents, however, said the school board acted too quickly. Others said they feared a national constitutional fight.

Barring any hurdles, the class should be added to the curriculum in fall 2006 and taught as a history or literature course. The school board still must develop a curriculum, which board member Floy Hinson said should be open for public review.

The board had heard a presentation in March from Mike Johnson, a representative of the Greensboro, N.C.-based National Council on Bible Curriculum in Public Schools, who said that coursework designed by that organization is not about proselytizing or preaching.
But People for the American Way and the American Civil Liberties Union have criticized the council, saying its materials promote religion.

Johnson said students in the elective class would learn such things as the geography of the Middle East and the influence of the Bible on history and culture.
"How can students understand Leonardo da Vinci's 'Last Supper' or Handel's 'Messiah' if they don't understand the reference from which they came?" Johnson said. The group's Web site says its curriculum has received backing in 292 school districts in 35 states.

In Frankenmuth, Mich., a similar proposal led to a yearlong controversy before the school board voted in January not to offer such a course.

And finally on March 9, 2000, four years after Clinton nominated Paez to the appeals court, Frist was on the losing end of a 59-39 vote on the nomination itself.

Gallup: Half of All Americans Now Feel Bush Deliberately Misled Them on WMDs

NEW YORK Half of Americans, exactly 50%, now say the Bush administration deliberately misled Americans about whether Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, the Gallup Poll organization reported this morning.

“This is the highest percentage that Gallup has found on this measure since the question was first asked in late May 2003,” Gallup observed. “At that time, 31% said the administration deliberately misled Americans. This sentiment has gradually increased over time, to 39% in July 2003, 43% in January/February 2004, and 47% in October 2004.”

Also, according to the latest poll, more than half of Americans, 54%, disapprove of the way President George W. Bush is handling the situation in Iraq, while 43% approve. In early February, Americans were more evenly divided on the way Bush was handling the situation in Iraq, with 50% approving and 48% disapproving. Last week Gallup reported that 53% now believe that the U.S. invasion of Iraq was “not worth it.” But Frank Newport, editor in chief at Gallup, recalled today that a majority of the public began to think the Vietnam war was a mistake in the summer of 1968. But the U.S. did not pull out of Vietnam for more than five years, after thousands of more American lives were lost.

Before she was killed, she had been visiting a family that had lost relatives during the U.S. bombing campaign. This woman was a hero, who's sole purpose was to look out for the well-being of the innocent victims, who's lives are destroyed by war.

Her work also led to the creation of a program known as the Civilian Assistance Program, which has provided $10 million to families and communities of Iraqi civilians killed by U.S. and other coalition forces. Another $10 million was allocated for this program just last week.

Oops! Asman Does It Again

Because I've been monitoring FNL for too long, I've become inured to the inanity of David Asman's "Observer" segment. But the one he did on Wed 4/13 struck me as an even lamer than usual attempt to bash the New York Times. So I dug a little. What I found may (or may not) surprise you.

Here's the link to the 4/13 installment of the "Asman Observer," entitled Movies As 'Propaganda' as posted on the foxnews.com website. Asman opens by mentioning that he knew a Cuban who once headed the Cuban Film Institute (ICAIC), then uses that as a hook to criticize ICAIC, the Havana Film Festival in New York for shoring only ICAIC-approved films, & the NYTimes for co-sponsoring the festival.

Asman sneers at "that champion of civil liberties, The New York Times" for co-sponsoring the festival, then says that

The Times issued a statement saying that they were co-sponsoring the event because their readers "appreciate a diversity of thought and opinions in culture."

The phrase "issued a statement" is clickable in the original. So I clicked. That link takes you not to the NYTimes but to a page in the New York Sun which -- oddly enough (not) -- is an article, dated 4/11/05, entitled "Cuban Film Festival Called Propaganda"

That article is much long than Asman's 4-paragraph "Observer" but -- with the exception of the personal & vague intro Asman uses as a hook, it contains everything else in his little diatribe.

For example, in para 2, Asman quotes expatriate Cuban filmmaker Reinaldo Cruz on ICAIC:

As Cuban filmmaker Reinaldo Cruz, who fled Cuba in 1998, says about the Cuban Film Institute, it has one overriding purpose: "to project the power and the image of the regime of Castro. It was founded for that."

Here's what the NYSun article said:

...a Cuban actor and director living in Miami, Reinaldo Cruz, who fled the communist regime in 1998. During his film career in Cuba, Mr. Cruz said, he became intimately familiar with ICAIC, which he said was the sole producer and distributor of movies in Cuba - and which, like all government organs on the island, censored the materials it distributed.

As such, Mr. Cruz said, the Havana Film Festival and its New York cousin have one purpose. "It is to project the power and the image of the regime of Castro. It was founded for that," Mr. Cruz said.

Note that in the original, Cruz is speaking about the Havana & the New York Film Festivals, not about ICAIC. So Asman can't even lift a quote correctly.

Later, in para 4, Asman quotes another Cuban:

Cuban American filmmaker Ivan Acosta (search) is incensed that the New York Times is endorsing a censored vision of Cuba: "They have a duty of investigating and finding out what is going on, instead of being useful idiots."

Here's what the NYSun article said:

To Mr. Acosta, however, "They [the festival's sponsors] have no excuse not to know."

"They have a duty of investigating and finding out what is going on, instead of being useful idiots," the filmmaker said of the press and broadcast sponsors of the event, which, besides the Times, include the Spanish-language paper El Diario, local TV station NBC 4, and the local affiliate of the Spanish-language TV network Telemundo.

Note that Acosta is talking about ALL of the film festival's co-sponsors, not just the NYTimes. But Asman doesn't mention any of the other co-sponsors in his little rant. Why not? Aren't other sponsors equally culpable?

And as for the NYTimes statement that Asman sneered about in para 3:

The Times issued a statement saying that they were co-sponsoring the event because their readers "appreciate a diversity of thought and opinions in culture."

Here's what the NYSun article said:

In a statement issued by e-mail from the Times director of public relations, Toby Usnik, the paper responded: "The Times's marketing department sponsors a variety of film and arts festivals each year as a service to its readers who appreciate a diversity of thought and opinions in culture. This festival is one such sponsorship."

So Asman lifts selected bits from another news source & re-publishes them as his own, without proper attribution. I believe that's called plagiarism.

Then the foxnews.com website links Asman's op-ed piece to the source Asman plagiaried from. I believe that's called stupidity.

Ann Spanko had no idea that military recruiters visited local high schools until last fall, when she saw an Army recruiting van parked outside Pioneer High School in south San Jose, where her son is a junior.

Under the No Child Left Behind Act approved by Congress in 2001, school districts are required to provide the Pentagon with student names, addresses and phone numbers so students may be contacted and recruited for military service.

As the war in Iraq enters its third year, recruiting has become a growing issue for principals and school boards across the country. Numerous families support military service, but some parents are clear: They don't want military representatives tracking down their kids.

"A lot of mothers say that their sons are immature and very impressionable, and they do not want them contacted by the military," said Mike Carr, director of student services for San Jose Unified School District. "More and more parents are bringing this forth, and I think it's because of the war."

Parents and legal guardians who do not want student information released to the military can submit "opt-out" forms to their school districts. The opt-out forms are often included in large student handbooks distributed at the beginning of the year. But few parents are aware the forms exist, in part because they are often buried in an avalanche of newsletters, directories and other paperwork.

And some complain that signing the forms has done little to prevent recruiters from contacting their children on campus or speaking in their classrooms.

Spanko, who said she wasn't aware of the opt-out option, wishes San Jose Unified would mail a separate letter about military recruiting home so parents can make informed decisions about whether recruiters should have access to their children.

Rep. Mike Honda, a Democrat whose 15th Congressional district includes western San Jose and central Santa Clara County, wants to take it a step further.

His "Student Privacy Protection Act" would turn current policy around, allowing the military to talk only to students whose parents approve of such contact. Instead of having the responsibility of opting out, Honda feels that parents should be asked to opt-in. Critics charge that this will make it far harder for recruiters to discuss military careers with the nation's high school students.

"I'm not against military recruiters on campus," said Honda, a former science teacher. "I'm against the provision of No Child Left Behind that says that schools have to share this private information with recruiters."

The Pentagon declined to comment on the proposed legislation, which was introduced in February.

Though the bill faces an uphill battle in the Republican-controlled Congress, some Bay Area Democrats, including Reps. Barbara Lee, Sam Farr, Lynn Woolsey and Pete Stark, have put their weight behind it as co-signers.

"The most important issue is getting the word out to parents," said Stark, who represents Fremont and urges parents to download an opt-out form from his congressional Web site. "Ninety percent of parents would prefer not to have their children's information given away."

But some parents who made a point of turning in opt-out forms say their privacy concerns are routinely ignored.

Fremont parent Donna Foley, who has two sons at Washington High School in Fremont, signed the opt-out form at the beginning of the school year. But her older son, a senior, has told her that military recruiters have given presentations in three of his classes this year.

"What's the point of an opt-out form if it's not enforced?" said Foley, who supports Honda's legislation. "It's a clear violation of my wishes as a parent, and it puts my son in a very awkward situation."

But the Department of Defense stresses that the "opt-out" provision refers to student names, addresses and phone numbers being released, not to how much time recruiters can spend on campuses.

"The access granted to military recruiters must be the same access that is generally provided to post secondary educational institutions and/or other prospective employers," Pentagon spokeswoman Lt. Col. Ellen Krenke said in an e-mail.

In some cases, students are leading the way to discourage students from joining the military.

In liberal enclaves such as Santa Cruz and Berkeley, some high school students have begun to "counter-recruit" whenever Army, Air Force, Navy or Marine representatives come to campus.

At Harbor High School in Santa Cruz, recruiters from different branches of the armed services visit the school about once a month and usually set up information tables during lunch. Several students join the military every year, and a scholarship fund has been established in honor of Andres Peres, a 2001 graduate who was killed while serving with the Marines in Iraq.

But a few weeks ago, when Air Force recruiters came to school, a group of students from a campus Peace and Justice group set up its own table 30 feet away and handed out fliers that said "Think Before You Enlist."

"If people really want to join the military, go for it," said senior Erin-Kate Escobar, 17. "We just want people to know that there are other ways to finance a college education."

Tim McGuire, an assistant principal at Harbor High, said that students involved in the counter-recruiting efforts are very mature and have talked with him at length, and the recruiters have handled the difference of opinion well.

"We have kids that go into the military and kids that don't," said McGuire. "Some join because they can't afford college, and others join because that's what they want to do." Others feel that some parents are overreacting.

"Could this get as far as parents who do not want their child to go out of California to bar any contact between the 'minors' and colleges that come on campus from Nevada? The East Coast? Kansas?" asked Leland High School parent Ginger Tate. "I would think that a parent could talk with their kid and/or with the recruiter about options. It is not that threatening."

Between commercials, according to an off-air audiotape obtained by investigative comedian Harry Shearer for last Sunday's episode of his weekly radio program, "Le Show," Hannity coached the women on exactly how to respond when liberal co-host Alan Colmes cross-examined them.

"Just say, 'I'm here to tell what I saw,'" Hannity can be heard instructing his guests. "No matter what the question, 'I'm here to tell you what I saw. I'm here to tell you what I saw.'"

Hannity adds helpfully: "Say, 'I'm not going to be distracted by silliness.' How's that? Does that help you? Look into that camera. Look at me when I'm talking."

On the air, Iyer performs beautifully. "I don't have any opinions or judgments. I was there," she declares

After the segment ends, Hannity gushes off the air to the nurses: "We got the points out. It's hard, this isn't easy. But you did great, both of you. Thank you, guys. Those nurses are powerful, aren't they?"

On his radio show, Shearer injected: "Yeah, especially when they do what you tell 'em to do. Very powerful when they follow instructions from the host!"

I am disappointed that in an attempt to hide what the debate is really about, Senator Frist would exploit religion like this. Religion to me is a very personal thing. I have been a religious man all my adult life. My wife and I have lived our lives and raised our children according to the morals and values taught by the faith to which we prescribe. No one has the right to judge mine or anyone else’s personal commitment to faith and religion.

God isn’t partisan.

As His children, he does ask us to do our very best and treat each other with kindness. Republicans have crossed a line today. America is better than this and Republicans need to remember that. This is a democracy, not a theocracy. We are people of faith, and in many ways are doing God’s work. But we represent all Americans, regardless of religion. Our founding fathers had the superior vision to separate Church and State in our democracy. It is a fundamental principle that has allowed our great, diverse nation to grow and flourish peacefully. Blurring the line between Church and State erodes our Constitution, and our democracy. It is a blatant abuse of power. Participating in something designed to incite divisiveness and encourage contention is unacceptable. I would hope that Sen. Frist will rise above something so beyond the pale.

Fellow Classmates,
As the student who asked Justice Scalia about his sexual conduct, I am responding to your posts to explain why I believe I had a right to confront Justice Scalia in the manner I did Tuesday, why any gay or sympathetic person has that same right. It should be clear that I intended to be offensive, obnoxious, and inflammatory. There is a time to discuss and there are times when acts and opposition are necessary. Debate is useless when one participant denies the full dignity of the other. How am I to docilely engage a man who sarcastically rants about the "beauty of homosexual relationships" (at the Q&A) and believes that gay school teachers will try to convert children to a homosexual lifestyle (at oral argument for Lawrence)?
Although I my question was legally relevant, as I explain below, an independent motivation for my speech-act was to simply subject a homophobic government official to the same indignity to which he would subject millions of gay Americans. It was partially a naked act of resistance and a refusal to be silenced. I wanted to make him and everyone in the room aware of the dehumanizing effect of trivializing such an important relationship. Justice Scalia has no pity for the millions of gay Americans on whom sodomy laws and official homophobia have such an effect, so it is difficult to sympathize with his brief moment of "humiliation," as some have called it. The fact that I am a law student and Scalia is a Supreme Court Justice does not require me to circumscribe my justified opposition and outrage within the bounds of jurisprudential discourse.

Law school and the law profession do not negate my identity as a member of an oppressed minority confronting injustice. Even so, I did have a legal point: Justice Kennedy's majority opinion in Lawrence asked whether criminalizing homosexual conduct advanced a state interest "which could justify the intrusion into the personal and private life of the individual." Scalia did not answer this question in his dissent because he believed the state need only assert a legitimate interest to defeat non-fundamental liberties. I basically asked him this question again - it is now the law of the land. He said he did not know whether the interest was significant enough. I then asked him if he sodomizes his wife to subject his intimate relations to the scrutiny he cavalierly would allow others - by force, if necessary. Everyone knew at that moment how significant the interest is. Beyond exerting official power against homosexuals, Scalia is an outspoken and high-profile homophobe. After the aforementioned sarcastic remarks about gay people's relationships, can anyone doubt how little respect he has for LGBT Americans? Even if no case touching gay rights ever came before him, his comments from the bench (that employment non-discrimination is some kind of "homosexual agenda," etc.) and within our very walls are unacceptable to any self-respecting gay person or principled opponent of discrimination. The idea that I should have treated a man with such repugnant views with deference because he is a high government official evinces either a dangerously un-American acceptance of authority or insensitivity to the gay community's grievances. Friends have forwarded me emails complaining of the "liberal" student who asked "the question." That some of my classmates are shallow and insensitive enough to conceptualize my complaint as mere partisan politics is disheartening. Though I should not have to, I will share with everyone that I am neither a Democrat nor Republican and do not consider myself a "liberal" except in the classical sense. I hope that we can separate a simple demand for equality under the law and outrage over being denied it from so much dogmatic ideological baggage. LGBT Americans are still a persecuted minority and our struggle for equal rights is still vital. 4 out of 5 LGBT kids are harassed in school - tell them to debate their harassers. Suicide rates for them are much higher than for others. We still cannot serve in the military, have little protection from employment and other forms of discrimination, and are denied the 1000+ benefits that accrue from official recognition of marriage. I know some who support gay rights oppose my question and our protest. Do not presume to tell me when and with how much urgency to stand up for our rights.

I am 17 months out of a lifelong closet and have lost too much time to heterosexist hegemony to tolerate those who say, as Dr. King put it, "just wait." If you cannot stomach a breach of decorum when justified outrage erupts then your support is nearly worthless anyway. At least do not allow yourselves to become complicit in discrimination by demanding obedience from its victims. Many of our classmates chose NYU over higher-ranked schools because of our reputation as a "private university in the public service" and our commitment to certain values. We were the first law school to require that employers pledge not to discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation. Of Scalia's law schools that have "signed on to the homosexual agenda," our signature stands out like John Hancock's. We won a federal injunction in the FAIR litigation as an "expressive association" that counts acceptance of sexual orientation as a core value. Those who worry about our school's prestige should remember how we got here and consider whether flattering those who mock what we believe and are otherwise willing to fight for appears prestigious or pathetic. We protestors did not embarrass NYU, Scalia embarrassed NYU. We stood up to a bigot for the values that make NYU more than a great place to learn the law. I repeat my willingess to discuss this issue calmly with anyone who respects my identity as a gay man. I have had many productive talks with classmates since Tuesday and Ihope that will continue.

ePluribus Media volunteer researcher RenaRF visited the Virginia base March 30, 2005, and requested a hand search of all records, as recommended by Marine Corps lead archive technician Armando Nunez after he failed to find files on Guckert in response to a Freedom of Information Act request submitted last month.

The hand search was conducted by Quantico staff member Delores Smith, who accessed computerized records from 1995-2005 and an additional 15 years' worth of archived microfiche files dating back to 1980, the year Guckert graduated from college. (He graduated from high school in 1975.)

The searches at Quantico were conducted by Social Security number, as well as by birth date and last name, with no hits on any combination of the criteria in either the computerized or microfiche records.

At the completion of the search, Smith stated that Guckert had never served in the United States Marine Corps.

At NYU Thursday night, a student asked U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia if he sodomized his wife? Normally, this isn't the type of question one would ask anyone, especially a member of the Supreme Court. Justice Scalia simply replied that the question was unworthy of an answer.

But I beg to differ - You see, Scalia wrote the dissenting view last year when the Supreme Court overturned the Texas law against gay sex and sodomy. By not agreeing, Scalia is basically saying that the government has the right to come into anyone's bedroom and monitor their sex life. I'm sorry Antonin, but if two gay adults want to blow each other in the privacy of their own home, the state of Texas should not be allowed to arrest them.

So the question is a fair one; do you go ditch diving on your wife in the privacy of your own home? If not, I feel really sad for your wife. I really do. But if you do, does the government have the right to regulate it or make it illegal? Of course not, but that's not what you said.

Our beloved President again told another white lie, to U.S. troops stationed in Texas no less. Of course, it's not a new lie, just the same old crap about the amount of Iraq security forces that are trained.

"President Bush said on Tuesday trained Iraqi security forces now outnumber U.S. troops in Iraq and are playing a greater role in fighting insurgents."

"Bush offered no timetable on a withdrawal. He said about 150,000 Iraqi military and police and other security personnel had now been trained, outnumbering the estimated 140,000 U.S. troops in Iraq."

Sound familiar? It should. The administration has been exaggerating Iraq troop levels for a long time.

PRESIDENTAL DEBATE:
"President Bush said in the Sept. 30 presidential debate that there are already 100,000 Iraqis trained to “make Iraq safe and secure.” In the Oct. 13 debate, the president said by the end of the year there would be 125,000 Iraqis trained to provide security. But others have labeled these numbers an exaggeration."

BUT FIVE MONTHS EARLIER:
"In April 2004, the Pentagon said the United States had trained and fielded more than 200,000 Iraqi security forces."

THEN IN JAN '05 WE HEARD:
"Condoleezza Rice told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that there are 120,000 trained Iraqi troops. Senator Joseph Biden (D-Del.) dismissed Rice's number as "malarkey" and said, based on his observations in Iraq, that the tally was closer to 4,000."

Of course, the problem is the definition of "trained".

"Top defense officials face questioning on Capitol Hill and the Pentagon about the numbers and readiness of Iraqi security forces trained by the United States. Gen. Richard Myers, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told the Senate Armed Services Committee that Iraq now has 136,000 military and police forces who've been trained. But he added that less than 1/3 are ready for combat."

Here is the problem we have; Bush and Company don't need to define what a "trained" Iraqi security force is.

Example - Back to the President's estimate of 100,000 during the Presidental Debate; 40,000 of the 100,000 trained security personnel the President referred were members of the Iraqi National Guard, which plays a support role to coalition forces. National Guard personnel receive anywhere between a few days and two or three weeks of non-standardized training. Most Guard members have no capacity or very limited capacity to act independently in a combat situation. So while it is accurate to say they are trained, they are not prepared or capable to take the place of American and other coalition troops.

For the Iraqi police it's worse; As of October '04, of the 85,000 Iraqi police in uniform, more than half have received no training at all.

Personally, I can't understand why Bush still feels the need to lie. Iraq appears to be moving forward at a good pace, violence seems to be down, we're hearing less reports about Iraq forces running and hiding from the violence or working against us. If they just try being honest for once, the American people can be patient. But as we say often in Robioland, when we're talking about Bush Inc., that would be too easy.

If Iraqis are so happy with our invading them two years ago, they sure have a funny way of showing it.

"Shiite and Sunni religious clerics called for protests to mark the two-year anniversary of Baghdad's fall, prompting four days of demonstrations across the country."

It seems they're happy to have their new found freedom (when I say freedom, I mean no more Saddem, not freedom in the same sense we know it), but they feel it's time for the Good Ole U.S.A. to go.

"Tens of thousands of mostly Shiite protesters, largely followers of militant cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, filled central Baghdad's streets Saturday, holding the largest anti-American protest since the invasion. Demonstrations have continued, all echoing the same demand: It's time for U.S. troops to leave." And this is coming from Shiites not Sunnis. The marriage took place in December.

Lawyer-author Edwin Vieira said his "bottom line" for dealing with the Supreme Court comes from Joseph Stalin. "He had a slogan, and it worked very well for him, whenever he ran into difficulty: 'no man, no problem,' " Vieira said. The full Stalin quote, for those who don't recognize it, is "Death solves all problems: no man, no problem."

Vieira continued by telling the gathering that Kennedy should be impeached because his philosophy, evidenced in his opinion striking down an anti-sodomy statute, "upholds Marxist, Leninist, satanic principles drawn from foreign law."

Richard Lessner of the American Conservative Union, opened the discussion by decrying a "radical secularist relativist judiciary."

Phyllis Schlafly, doyenne of American conservatism, said Kennedy's opinion forbidding capital punishment for juveniles "is a good ground of impeachment." To cheers and applause

Schlafly said that Kennedy had not met the "good behavior" requirement for office and that "Congress ought to talk about impeachment."

Schlafly called for passage of a quartet of bills in Congress that would remove courts' power to review religious displays, the Pledge of Allegiance, same-sex marriage and the Boy Scouts. Her speech brought a subtle change in the argument against the courts from emphasizing "activist" judges -- it was, after all, inaction by federal judges that doomed Schiavo -- to "supremacist" judges. "The Constitution is not what the Supreme Court says it is," Schlafly asserted.

Michael P. Farris, chairman of the Home School Legal Defense Association, said Kennedy "should be the poster boy for impeachment" for citing international norms in his opinions. "If our congressmen and senators do not have the courage to impeach and remove from office Justice Kennedy, they ought to be impeached as well."

"The people who have been speaking out on this, like Tom DeLay and Senator Cornyn, need to be backed up," Schlafly said to applause yesterday. One worker at the event wore a sticker declaring "Hooray for DeLay."

Former representative William Dannemeyer (R-Calif.) followed Schlafly, saying the country's "principal problem" is not Iraq or the federal budget but whether "we as a people acknowledge that God exists."

Farris then told the crowd he is "sick and tired of having to lobby people I helped get elected." A better-educated citizenry, he said, would know that "Medicare is a bad idea" and that "Social Security is a horrible idea when run by the government." Farris said he would block judicial power by abolishing the concept of binding judicial precedents, by allowing Congress to vacate court decisions, and by impeaching judges such as Kennedy, who seems to have replaced Justice David H. Souter as the target of conservative ire. "If about 40 of them get impeached, suddenly a lot of these guys would be retiring," he said.

Vieira, a constitutional lawyer who wrote "How to Dethrone the Imperial Judiciary," escalated the charges, saying a Politburo of "five people on the Supreme Court" has a "revolutionary agenda" rooted in foreign law and situational ethics. Vieira, his eyeglasses strapped to his head with black elastic, decried the "primordial illogic" of the courts.

Washington Time...wrong!!!

Remember that little story the Washington Times wrote saying that the Schiavo memo must be a fake? They basically accused Democrats of forging the memo to make Republicans look bad. They claimed to have done a survey and "found that every Republican said the memo was not crafted or distributed by him or her. Every one of them said he or she had not seen it until the memo was the subject of speculation in major news organs, particularly ABC News and The Washington Post."

Guess what? They were wrong!! Senator Mel Martinez, R-Fla., has confessed that it was his office that wrote the infamous Schiavo memo that stated that the Terri Schiavo case was an important one because "the pro-life base will be excited that the Senate is debating this important issue," and "This is a great political issue, because Senator Nelson of Florida has already refused to become a cosponsor and this is a tough issue for Democrats."

Oh, the compassion.

Meanwhile, as the Washington Times figures out how to pull their heads out of their assholes, Neoconservative's favorite Asian whore, Michelle Malkin, should be doing the same right about now.

The other day, dear Michelle posted on her web site a call for the Washington Post (and all liberal media for that matter) to come clean and admit they knowingly reported on this fake memo story.

I suspect that no one at the Post or ABC News still believes the amateurish, unsigned, misspelled memo was circulated by Republican Party leaders. We may never know whether the memo was the handywork of a Republican staffer or a Democrat dirty trickster or an outside interloper, but clearly there is absolutely no evidence that this was a Karl Rove plot.

Nonetheless, the damage has been done. The memo has been cited hundreds of times to support the argument that Republicans' decision to intervene in the Schiavo case was politically motivated. And neither ABC News nor the Post has admitted any wrongdoing.

The Post can continue to mischaracterize its coverage. It can stonewall, perhaps hoping that its critics will get bored and give up. Or it can own up to its errors.

Should it choose to correct its errors, there will be a lot to account for. By my count, the Post owes its readers four retractions:

Congress pass new "Asian Delivery Boy" Law

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Following more than three minutes of passionate debate on Capitol Hill, the U.S. House early today passed a bill that transfers jurisdiction of all private elevators to federal authorities after hearing about the ordeal of Ming Kuang Chen, an Asian delivery boy who was trapped in a broken elevator for four days.

President Bush, who rode in on horseback from Crawford, Texas just to sign this bill, was awaken from his second late-afternoon nap to put his signature on the bill within five minutes of passage.

“Today, I signed into a law a bill that will allow federal authorities to watch over and guard all public elevators throughout the country, so little Asian delivery boys will not go without food, fluids, or some kind of Chinese mystic tea necessary to sustain their life," a statement from the president said.
"In cases like this one, where there are serious questions about our public elevators and substantial doubts about them elevators working, our society, our laws, and our elevators should have a presumption in favor of life."

The extraordinary session had supporters, primarily Republicans, arguing that the issue was all about the "rights to life" for Asian delivery boys with a Democrat warning that passing the measure would "undermine over 200 years of public elevators independence.”

The special vote required a super-duper majority, meaning a two-thirds of House members had to approve it -- a mark easily reached.

"We are very, very, very thankful to have crossed this bridge and we're very hopeful that the federal authorities will follow the will of Congress and save the life of any future Asian delivery boys from possible dying in broken down elevators," said Ming Kuang Chen, 35, after eating an apple and a bowl of cereal at Saint Maria Gonzalez Sanchez Rodriguez hospital.

Mr. Chen, or Long Duk Dong as most white people would call him, was the New York City Asian delivery boy who had been the subject of a massive search after disappearing last week. Duk Dong was eventually found trapped in a broken elevator in the Bronx apartment complex he was delivering food to four days after he was reported missing by a streat whore, Lilly Fandango; a $10 hooker who "serviced" the delivery boy every day after his shift. Fire fighters arriving to rescue Duk Dong thought he was drunk at first, but he was actually feeling the effects of dehydration.

Following the vote, Ling Wong, owner of the Happy Dragon restaurant where Mr. Chen slaved for $1.25 and hour plus tips, spoke with CNN's Bob Franken a short time after visiting his second favorite Asian delivery boy in the hospital.
"I asked him if he was ready to take a little ride, and I told him that we were going to take him for a little trip and take him outside and get him some breakfast, and that got a big smile out of his face, so help me God," he said. "Mr. Chen seemed to be very pleased and we're pleased and we're very thankful for both the House and the Senate for passing this bill and literally saving the life of any future Asian delivery boys."

Ming Kuang Chen has been an Asian all his life and a delivery boy ever since performing sexual favors for a Greek boat captain who smuggled him to the United States in a box aboard a rustic Casino boat ten years prior. An attempt was made to figure out which Asian country Chen was actually from, but his english is not so good and plus they all look alike, so who really cares.

New York’s major Bloomberg, no relation to the President, issued a statement shortly after the vote:
"I thank the Congress for its swift action allowing federal authorities to control and monitor all public elevators. Certainly, an incapacitated person like an Asian delivery boy deserves at least the same protection afforded criminals sentenced to death."

The number of lawmakers on Capitol Hill dwindled late last week as they headed home to watch American Idol, but more than 260 of 435 returned in time for the vote.

The compromise bill transfers jurisdiction of all public elevators to federal authorities who will begin to closely monitor all public elevators by posting an armed federal marshal on each floor of each public building, 24 hours a day, across the United States to guarantee that no Asian delivery boys get trapped in any public elevators that might not be functioning correctly.

Congress, itself, has no authority or desire for that matter to stand and watch every public elevator, but they can pass laws to force federal marshals to do it.

Leading up to the vote, the issue spurred passionate debate on both sides of the issue.
"The measure of a nation's commitment to the sanctity of life is reflected in its laws and to the extent those laws honor and defend its most vulnerable citizens like Asian Delivery boys" said Rep. James Sensenbrenner, R-Wis., in kicking off the House debate.

The Senate passed the bill by a voice vote earlier yesterday.
"When a person's intention is to just deliver some all-American Chinese food to some hungry people who live in tall buildings that have elevators, poor Asian delivery boys shouldn’t have to risk dying of starvation or going thirsty because of secular elevators," Sensenbrenner added. "In our public actions, we must build a culture of life that welcomes and defends all human life."

Earlier, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay argued that all Asian delivery boys should be protected by federal agents monitoring elevators.
"The legal issues, I grant you, are complicated, but the moral ones are not," the Republican from Texas told reporters. "What will it hurt to have a federal marshal at every single public elevator throughout the United States?”

After the vote, Delay expressed some sense of relief.
"I tell you I won't feel good until every Asian delivery boy can go up and down and up and down and up and down any elevator without going hungry or being thirsty. I hope, I pray this never happens again," he said.

Delay received a hug and a thank you from Long Wang Chen, Ming’s retarded half-brother, who was waiting for him with his pants down in his office.

But Democrats said Congress has no right to become involved in sensitive elevator issues.
"We are members of Congress. We are not elevator technicians. We are not elevator experts. We are not mechanics. We are members of Congress," said Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla.
"The message we’re sending by putting one federal marshal on every floor of every building with an elevator across the United States is the wrong message," said Robert Wexler, D-Fla. "What next, we pass silly laws that bypass state court rulings that we don't agree with and destroy the sanctiny of marriage by taking a husband's right to decide what his brain dead wife would have wanted? The evidence provided by a standard of clear and convincing evidence is that although elevators across this country are not perfect, incidents like Mr. Chen’s are rare."

"If this bill passes, this Congress is saying that public elevators will lose its long jurisdiction of history in this matter and others like it and the jurisdiction of federal authorities will be substituted," Wexler said. “Approving the bill would "undermine over 200 years of jurisprudence," he said. “We are willing tonight to replace our judgment with the judgment of the most prominent elevator technicians in our country, who have labored extensively to perfect America’s elevators."

Tony Soprano, the head of the NYC Elevator Repair Union, told CNN Sunday that he was outraged at Congress' actions.
"I think that every American in this country should also be outraged that this government is trampling all over this matter," he said.

According to Paulie Walnuts, A Sopranos capo, "The harm is the further delay of the right to privacy that public elevators have already been given and that they deserve."

Despite the quick signing of the new law, Congress has yet to specify how they were going to pay for their latest government program, which opponents argue will cost trillions of dollars.
“It’s a tragedy that this Republican congress continues to spend, spend, spend, all while continuing to give tax cuts to the wealthiest one-percent,” said former Democratic presidental nominee John Kerry. “If they (Republicans) want to pay for this new program, then they need to roll back the President’s tax cuts immediately.”

But Republicans in Congress disputed Democrats claim that they lacked a plan.
“The tax and spend Democrats are just trying to divide the country,” said Senator Rick Santorum, R-Pa. “For out-of-touch Liberals who favor a ‘culture of death’ and who only come out of their dark, sadistic holes to save gay sodomy, abortion-on-demand and murderers on death row, it’s disgusting they can’t find it in their blacken souls to help save poor Asian delivery boys like Mr. Chen.”

“I personally saw a grainy black and white photo of the soulless elevator that tried to starve Mr. Chen to death," said Senator Frist, R-TN before his "How to get aids from jumping up and down" seminar at Bob Jones University. "I got the photo from a friend of mine who took it from his sister’s cousin who got it from a gentleman working at Burger King, who was recently in a gang bang organized by Clarence Thomas and his mistress, Barbara, who took the actual photograph. After reviewing the photo for roughly ten seconds from across a poorly lit, windowless room, I know, based on my years watching my Mexican nanny’s husband change the batteries in my TV remote control, a thing or two about elevator maintenance and I can assure you that elevators have become human death traps.” Frist added “How can death-loving liberal elitist put a price tag on a human life, if we spend a trillion dollars and are able to save one Asian delivery boy from starving to death, trapped in a broken elevator then it was worth every penny.”

The millions of federal marshals required to perform this new government task, will begin their 24-hour a day elevator monitoring starting this Wednesday.

Judges beware!

It still amazes me to this day some of the bullshit Republicans will pull out of their asses and will actually say on the Senate floor (even when it's empty).

Senator John Cornyn had the balls to claim on the Senate floor that the recent violence against judges is to be blamed on "activist judges" (The cool, new Republican phrase).

Senator Cornyn:
"I don't know if there is a cause-and-effect connection, but we have seen some recent episodes of courthouse violence in this country. . . . And I wonder whether there may be some connection between the perception in some quarters, on some occasions, where judges are making political decisions yet are unaccountable to the public, that it builds up and builds up and builds up to the point where some people engage in, engage in violence. Certainly without any justification, but a concern that I have."

Now remember, the term "activist judges" relates to any judge that makes a ruling that a Republican/Conservative/Ball Sack doesn't agree with.

Let's look at the two most recent murder cases:
- In Chicago, a man fatally shot the husband and mother of a federal judge who had ruled against him in a medical malpractice suit.
- In Atlanta last month, a man broke away from a deputy and fatally shot four people, including the judge presiding over his rape trial.

Die, Activist Judges, Die!

Now unlike Tom "The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior" DeLay who has his underwear stuck up his ass because multiple state and federal judges obeyed the law in the Terri Schiavo case (Keep in mind, obeying the law is something DeLay seems to have trouble understanding).

Cornyn on the other hand is hopping mad about the Supreme Court's recent 5-4 decision to stop executing children in murder cases. Of course he claims "a lot of people" are distressed by this outcome.

"It causes a lot of people, including me, great distress to see judges use the authority that they have been given to make raw political or ideological decisions," he said. Sometimes, he said, "the Supreme Court has taken on this role as a policymaker rather than an enforcer of political decisions made by elected representatives of the people."

Of course, once again we have a politician speaking for "a lot of people" but the numbers just don't add up.

According to a CNN/USA TODAY/GALLUP poll, while 64 percent of American's support the death penalty, 69 percent oppose executing juveniles. So it seems Senator "Cocksucker" Cornyn is speaking on behalf of only 31 percent of the country...many of those I'm sure are from Texas; the state that not only executes the children, but the retarded.

So much for that "Culture of Life" thing I was hearing so much about.

Pope bashing

Now that the old man's been dead for over 48 hours, it seems like a good time to speak the truth about his legacy...and there are three things that stick out!

1) Condoms - Over the last twenty years, the greatest epidemic to hit this planet has been AIDS. While millions have become infected and died, the Pope has refused to change the Catholic church's stance on the use of Condoms. I can understand and appreciate the Church's desire to teach abstinence, but with H.I.V. we can't afford to choose one or the other. You preach one (abstinence), but teach them both! If this crises was spreading through (Christian) Europe as it has Africa, the world, including the Pope, would be playing a whole different ball game.

2) Birth Control - This is the most outdated bullshit the Church has to this day. It's one thing to not want unmarried women to be on the pill (Because if you're on the pill, you must be sleeping with anyone with a penis), but the Pope condemns birth control for married couples. Why? Like every religion, the best way to keep your base is to outbreed everyone else. At some point we have to start thinking realistically. There are over 6-billion people on this little, tiny planet. We already costuming more of the Earth's natural resources then would should be. Maybe it's not such a good thing for every Tom, Dick and Harry to have ten children each. Now I know Christians believe Armageddon is coming, so why give two shits about the planet? But until that day, let's not condemn some families for wanting just one or two kids.

3) Sex Abuse - For all it's talk about abstinence...this is one church that talks the talk, but certainly doesn't walk the walk. Not only has the church been raping little boys throughout the years, when it was discovered and the world knew, what did this pope do? He hid the facts, covered up evidence and protected guilty parties. The only thing sicker then the act of raping a small child, is sane people who are supposed to be on the side of God, making excuses for the Bishops and Cardinals who knew what was going on and spent three decades protecting the rapist. Any changes the Pope made in Catholic policy to prevent this from happening again in the future were just token changes to get the media and authority of its back.

This is the Pope I'll remember!

I was stunned to read the threatening comments you made yesterday against Federal judges and our nation’s courts of law in general. In reference to certain Federal judges, you stated: “The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior.”

As you are surely aware, the family of Federal Judge Joan H. Lefkow of Illinois was recently murdered in their home. And at the state level, Judge Rowland W. Barnes and others in his courtroom were gunned down in Georgia.

Our nation’s judges must be concerned for their safety and security when they are asked to make difficult decisions every day. That’s why comments like those you made are not only irresponsible, but downright dangerous. To make matters worse, is it appropriate to make threats directed at specific Federal and state judges?

You should be aware that your comments yesterday may violate a Federal criminal statute, 18 U.S.C. §115 (a)(1)(B). That law states:

“Whoever threatens to assault…. or murder, a United States judge… with intent to retaliate against such… judge…. on account of the performance of official duties, shall be punished [by up to six years in prison]”

Threats against specific Federal judges are not only a serious crime, but also beneath a Member of Congress. In my view, the true measure of democracy is how it dispenses justice. Your attempt to intimidate judges in America not only threatens our courts, but our fundamental democracy as well.

Federal judges, as well as state and local judges in our nation, are honorable public servants who make difficult decisions every day. You owe them – and all Americans – an apology for your reckless statements.

The key to any great title run is tragedy...you need at least one player who's life has just sucked so much, it's too sad even for Oprah! In this final four, nobody's sob story comes remotely close to topping Taquan Dean of Louisville. He had no father; he found his mom dead in her bedroom when he was six, after she had taken the wrong medication. He and his sister moved in with his grandparents, and they both were dead before he turned ten; then he moved in with his uncle...guess what, dead. Does this bring you back to Maryland's title run? The Terps had Juan Dixon, who lost both his parents to aids!! And if Dean's story doesn't have enough death for you, his teammate, Francisco Garcia. His brother Hector was gunned down in the Bronx. You can't spell 'Title Game' without D.E.A.T.H., well, actually you can't spell 'Title Game' with Tit, but that's not the point. Tradegy equals at least one victory in the final four, so CBS can do all those sappy stories leading up to Monday's title game.

If you don't buy the tragedy angle, here's one game with all kinds of history to talk about. First you have North Carolina, loaded with 30-Future NBA'ers (so I hear). What happens to teams who have an entire roster of NBA talent? They lose! Actually, history tells us that NBA talent teams don't win back-to-back years. Last year's NBA Huskies won it all...sorry Tar Heels. Now if that doesn't tickle your ball sack, you also have the history of the little white guy on the bench, Roy Williams; the greatest active coach never to win it all. He's not going to win his first title until he's like 75, a year from retirement with a "less-talented, but all-heart" team.

You're so wrong, you don't even deserve to read the rest of this posting...but please do, it makes me feel needed. Now, over the last seven years, six teams have won the title not named Duke. Of those six years, what's the one thing all those title games had in common? Each game featured the team that beat Duke! Of those six teams, five of them won the title! Don't you see? You beat Duke at any point in the Big Dance and you're going to win the title! Not convinced? Over the past nineteen years, Duke has been in the tournament 18 times. Of those eighteen, Duke has won three titles. Out of the other fifteen tournaments, the team that beat Duke made it to the final game 12 times!!! That's 12 out of 15! The three teams that didn't make it to the title game are the three teams that upset Duke in one of the first two rounds, which means, if you beat Duke after the first two rounds, you have a %100 percent chance of going to the title game!!! Not bad.

Could they have done any worse reporting the death of Terri Schiavo? I go online to read what I can about her death this morning and what do I get:
- Only her parent’s grief
- Priests calling Terri’s husband a murderer
- Quote after quote from ‘pointless’ protesters
- The Bush brothers

I expect this from Fox, but I’m talking about CNN and MSNBC! I understand why so many quotes over the past two weeks have come from the Schindler’s. They were doing all the talking; there wasn’t a camera crew they didn’t like. Michael, on the other hand, has done what he’s always done; kept this a private matter. He never appeared in front of cameras and rarely granted interviews. That’s fine, that’s his choice. But would have it killed one, single report to question the Schlinder’s constant lying?

But what really tickles my ass is when I go to read details of Terri’s death and all I get are reports about the protesters.

“You saw a murder happening,” said Dominique Hanks, who had ridden her motorized wheelchair around the hospice every day since the tube was removed.

“Everybody who denied her right to live are accomplices to murder, and God knows,” Hanks said.

Patrick Bautch of Milwaukee disgustedly tossed away a sign that said “President Bush, Please Help Terri.”

“He could have done something,” Bautch said. “He was supposed to be for life and he neglected his role. ... The value of human life has just gone down the drain.”

A few feet away, a small group burst into hymns, singing the traditional song, “How Great Thou Art,” as Richard Jacobson, of Corning, N.Y., accompanied them on a tarnished trumpet.

Jacobson, who has been playing religious and patriotic music outside the hospice for the past three days, said he didn’t really believe that Terri was dead.

“I’m not believing the report of man,” the bearded man said. “God will raise her from the dead, and all the world will see it.”

After the announcement, Mike Stafford, of Hollywood, Fla., stood before police — who had arrested more than 50 people trying to bring water to Schiavo — gave the Nazi salute and shouted “Heil Hitler.”

“It’s really sick what we’ve seen here,” Stafford said.

You would thing the media would be fighting over the facts for the case, getting a wide variety of opinions, but oh no. They were to busy clambering all over each other to get that next great sound bite from a protester or a shot of the next outrageous sign comparing Terri’s Husband to Hitler. But of course, the day wouldn’t be complete without those pesky Bush brothers.

President Bush opened up a press conference saying he hoped Terri Schiavo's death would lead to a better appreciation for a "culture of life, where all Americans are valued and protected, especially those who live at the mercy of others."

George’s brother, Jeb said, "I remain convinced, however, that Terri's death is a window through which we can see the many issues left unresolved in our families and in our society. For that, we can be thankful for all that the life of Terri Schiavo has taught us," the governor said in a statement.

And of course we can’t go five minutes with the Vatican chiming in.

A Vatican cardinal denounced Schiavo's death, saying that "an attack against life is an attack against God, who is the author of life."

Just once, it would have been nice if one of the Bush brothers took Michael Schiavo up on his offer and actually came down and visited Terri…since this issue was so important to both of them.

Why couldn’t the media figure out that this case had nothing to do with George Bush, Jeb Bush, the Vatican and it absolutely had nothing to with the worthless protesters? Is this their reward for showing up at a protest; air time? At their peek, the protesters numbered in the one-hundreds. That’s pretty pathetic considering they were bussing them in.

A large majority of the citizens of this country DO NOT, let me say that again, DO NOT agree with the protesters. For these “pro-life” fanatics, Terri’s sad situation had nothing to do with Terri. For them, this was an opportunity to get on TV and promote their war; to create a divide between us and them. For these extremist, Terri was just the first battle in a war to get abortion banned, gays back into the closet, prayer back in school and the Ten Commandments on every piece of public property. For them, the government’s sole purpose is to regulate morality; what we wear, what we say, what we do.

If only these people cared this much about the life’s of the 1,500 U.S. soldiers who have died for George Bush’s faux war.

You remember Ben Stein...from 'Win Ben Stein's Money'? Even before that he warmed our hearts as Ferris Bueller's economics teacher.

"Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?"
AND
"In 1930, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives, in an effort to alleviate the effects of the... Anyone? Anyone?... the Great Depression, passed the... Anyone? Anyone? The tariff bill? The Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? Which, anyone?"

But one thing we should never forget is before all this, Ben Stein was a speech writer for the lovable Dick Nixon and his ideology remains firmly to the right.

Yesterday, Ben Stein chimed in on the Terri Schiavo situation in The American Spectator, reminding us all where he stands. So I have decided to debate Mr. Stein.
(Again, since I have no ability to reach Ben Stein, I can only debate his op-ed. Below is his op-ed...my opinion is in red)

"Terry Schiavo Sentenced To Death."

Because she had a "husband" who did not want her alive to talk about him or for whatever reason, she was sentenced to die in a cruel and unusual way that the Supreme Court would never have countenanced for the most savage mass killer -- slow starvation and dehydration. Why isn't she excused from the death penalty for that reason alone?

Nice, right off the bat you throw out the new Christian conservative talking point, accusing Terri's husband, Michael Schiavo, of attempted murder and now he wants her dead so he can keep her quiet. You know, if you're just going to use twisted, make-believe talking points, can you use at least use bullet points next time? Thanks.

Because the courts read the public opinion polls and the polls show that most people don't care for her to stay alive, she is sentenced to die. So now we have "Family Feud" justice where the only right answer is the one that most respondents give, and a totally innocent woman has to die because a poll says so.

Gee, if only the Supreme Court ruled based on polls and public opinion more often; those pesky 2000 election results would have been quite different. The laws are clear on this one, Ben. If you want the laws changed, call your local Congressman, this way your parents can decide your fate and not your wife.

I wonder if a poll of Aryan Germans would have found a majority who cared enough to pull a lever to save the Jews. I suspect a good majority -- voting in total secrecy, of course -- would have said, "Let them die. They're inferior and not worth providing food for." So now we are at that level.

Wow, it only took you three paragraphs to throw out the typical Republican "Nazi" reference. Bill O'Reilly would be so proud. But let's be clear on this; you're comparing the systematic elimination of six-million Jews to the majority of Americans who believe a) the husband knows his wife's wishes best and b) if we were in her shoes we would want to be allowed to go quietly into that good night too?

But when Terri Schiavo is with her Maker let's be clear what happened: she was executed by the culture of death judiciary, the same ones who say no baby has a right to live until he's out of the womb by a few days -- and you can bet that's going to change so that babies who are less than perfect will soon be sentenced to death, too. She was executed, despite having committed no crime whatsoever, by thugs in black robes who would not know a law if it were on their breakfast plate.

Yes, the "Culture of death!" Man, you guys are so good at these three-word slogans. And guess what? You're right. It's all part of the Democrats new "Culture of Death" plan. You have us all figured out. After Terri' kicks the bucket, we're going to start killing any babies that are less than perfect (especially the fat ones). If we're lucky, we can take care of the social security problem by simply eliminating anyone over 70 who looks at me wrong on the street.

This is what we have come to. The unelected judiciary has simply taken over, like a gangster governmental branch, from the rest of the government, and it is a judiciary of death. And this is with a Republican, right to life president. When a Democrat wins again, as will surely happen, God help us.

Now Ben, you're a smart man...that's why so many people failed to win your money on your show, so I'm surprised I have to remind you of this; Judge Greer, the state judge who presides over this case in state court (you know, the one under 24-house protection because of all the death threats from the people supporting the "Culture of Life") he was elected, in fact he's been elected three times, most recently in 2004, right in the middle of the Terri Schiavo case. Obviously , someone down there thinks he's doing a fine job.
