Every year or so, we have a cultural debate that seems to divide Americans into two camps. And as you have learned from this week's shows, it is not always Republicans fighting Democrats.
ACTUALLY JOEY, THIS 'CULTURAL DEBATE' ISN'T DIVIDING THE COUNTRY. YOU SEE, WHEN YOU USE THE WORD DIVIDE, YOU'RE IMPLYING THAT HALF THE NATION THINKS ONE WAY AND THE OTHER HALF FEELS THE OTHER WAY. IN THIS CASE, YOU SIT IN A VERY SMALL MINORITY WHO THINK LETTING TERRI PASS INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT IS MURDER.
I know many Republicans who support Michael Schiavo's efforts to end his wife's life, and I know many Democrats who agree with me that starving Terri to death is inhumane and beneath us as a country.
WHAT DO THOSE SAME REPUBLICANS AND DEMOCRATS THINK OF TOM DELAY'S DECISION TO TURN OFF HIS FATHER'S LIFE SUPPORT AND KILLING HIM? MY OPINION, TOM DELAY DID THE HUMANE THING SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO, JUST AS TERRI'S HUSBAND IS DOING.
But it is during these kind of dustups in American culture that elites earn their bad name.

YES THEY DID, BECAUSE THEY WERE TALKING ABOUT SOMEONE IN TERRI'S CASE WHO HAS NO BRAIN; WHEN YOU HAVE NO BRAIN, YOU CAN'T FEEL HUNGER, YOU CAN'T FEEL PAIN; NOT EVEN THE HORRIBLE CRAMPS PEOPLE GET WHEN THEY ACCIDENTLY TURN ON YOUR SHOW.
The Associate Press cited a study that showed that on a sliding scale from one to nine, experts believed that dying from a lack of food and water was all in all, a very good death.
